If you are prone to breakouts, here are a few easy ways to get rid of acne, fade acne scars, and keep your
skin clear.

Many soaps and creams used for acne are harsh, and can dry your skin.  This can cause even more redness
and inflammation.

If your skin does not react well to conventional skin care products, try using these handmade formulas for
awhile instead:

Clay Mask for Acne

3 Tablespoons yogurt
3 Tablespoons Pascalite clay powder
3 Tablespoons honey

Spread this mixture on your face, and allow to dry, about 30 minutes.
Store remaining formula in the refrigerator.  Use daily, or as often as possible.  Pascalite clay powder is
available online, from  We find that this special clay works exceptionally well for healing
skin breakouts.

Lavender, Rose and Green Tea Toner

4 ounces witch hazel
1 Tablespoon dried lavender flowers
1 Tablespoon dried rosebuds

Mix all together and store in a glass jar for 1 week.
Strain, place into a plastic squirt bottle, and use this liquid on a cotton pad to cleanse your face each morning.
If the toner is too drying, wet the cotton pad first, and use only a few drops of the toner for cleansing.  Dried
lavender and rose buds are available from Mountain Rose Herbs.  Be sure to use organic varieties.

Twice each week, use cleansing grains on your skin.
In order to avoid scratching your face, use grains made from cereal, such as these:

      Cleansing Grains for Acne

Combine:                ¼ cup farina cereal
               ¼ cup coarse cornmeal
           2 Tablespoons sugar

Now you have cleansing grains that will cleanse your skin deeply, without burning or scraping.  Just shake a
little into the palm of your hand, and apply to your face when it is wet and has just been washed.  Massage
into the skin, using small, gentle circles.  Rinse.

You will notice that as you use these gentle products regularly, your skin will calm down.  Not only will it start
to rebalance, but it will become much softer, and radiant.  The ingredients in these recipes work with your
skin, to heal breakouts.

Healing Acne from Within

To calm skin problems, some people are helped by taking a tablespoon of cod liver oil a day, or fish oil
Eating flax seed -- the ground up kind, not capsules, and raw (not roasted) walnuts will also help reduce
inflammation that can cause skin problems.
Walnut oil,
used on salads and even drunk from a spoon (1 tablespoon a day) is an excellent anti-inflammatory.

You might also try drinking a pot of anti-inflammatory tea each day for a few months.  Here is an herbal
formula -- a loose tea that you can mix up at home from ordinary kitchen herbs.

These herbs are actually medicinal, and  contain Cox-2 inhibitors, which help your skin to heal.  Cox-2
inhibitors are thought to slow down inflammation in the body:

Cox-2 Inhibitor Tea

4 Tablespoons dried peppermint
1 Tablespoon dried rosemary
2 Tablespoons dried sage
4 Tablespoons white tea

After brewing a pot of this, add the fresh juice of ½ orange or ¼ fresh lemon.  This will help you absorb the
beneficial elements in the tea.
